Knives in Hens

Set and Costume Design

Chapter Studio 2018 (conceptual)

Designed in partnership with director Luke Hereford, this project centred on the theme of language and development that is pivotal to the text. We wanted to create a world that echoed David Harrower’s line “there’s all we need to look at between our earth and His sky“, placing the character of Woman at the physical centre of the piece and observing her limited but growing perspective on the world, with influence on her experience from both William the ploughman and Gilbert the miller, but nothing in the set that isn’t known to her. By bringing the audience right into Woman’s space, we hope to communicate the narrative through her eyes.
